Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
Reflecting on my internship and capstone experience with the Burmese American Community Institute (BACI), I can see how much I have grown both professionally and personally. Working in the Initial Resettlement Program gave me a deeper understanding of the challenges newly arrived refugees face and the amount of coordination, accuracy, and compassion required to support them effectively.
Throughout my internship, I learned how to collect and verify client information, organize detailed case files, and communicate with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. I also gained experience participating in meetings with supervisors and partner agencies, where I learned how to identify client needs, discuss barriers, and plan next steps for their resettlement. These responsibilities taught me the importance of being detail‑oriented, asking questions when I needed clarification, and staying organized.
Overall, this experience strengthened my communication skills, improved my confidence, and deepened my commitment to serving the community. It confirmed my interest in working in human services and showed me how meaningful it is to support individuals as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
